Privacy and Data Protection

 

The Savannah Wine Institute is committed to keeping our student's personal information safe by complying with all privacy and data protection laws. 

Device Information
When you visit the Savannah Wine Institute (SWI) website, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and the following: 

- “Cookies” - Cookies are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.

- “Log files”- Log files track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.

- “Web beacons”, “tags”, and “pixels”- These are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

All collected information is stored in an encrypted Google Drive. Additionally, as you browse the SWI site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, the websites or search terms which referred you to us, and information about how you interact with our site. We may use some of the device information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our website and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns. SWI’s web payment checkout process is secured by HTTPS / TLS encryption.

TLS (Transport Layer Security) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and secure. TLS is the industry standard and is used by millions of websites in the protection of their online transactions with their customers.

 

Personal Information
As part of the online registration process , students will provide their birthday, full name, and contact information. This information will be securely stored on an encrypted Google Drive and accessible only to SWI staff.  This information will not be sold to any third party entities and will only be used to: finalize registration for the  course(s) in which the student has enrolled, communicate with the student, provide the student with information and/or SWI marketing material, comply with applicable laws and regulations, respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights. Any physical files containing students’ personal information are kept in a secure, locked cabinet and scanned into an encrypted Google Drive.

 

Your Rights
Any student of SWI has the right to access personal information we hold and to request that personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. For any changes to personal information, a written request should be sent to info@savannahwineinstitute.com. All student data stored digitally will be kept by SWI for five (5) years, after which it will be deleted and/or destroyed as needed.

 

Changes
We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
